1.仲人ラビ（The Matchmaking Rabbi）

・「呪い」で吹き出してしまいました。

「ええ、結婚したいんです」と私は彼に言った。彼は「では、本を開いて、どのページでもいいから、単語を見つけなさい」と魔法使いのように言った。そこで私は本を取り、単語を指さした。彼は「読んでみなさい」と言った。私は「Ki, Shu」と言った。彼は「これがどういう意味か知っていますか？」と聞いた。私は魔法と推測したが、彼は「違う。これは呪いという意味だ。あなたは呪われている。これがあなたが結婚していない理由だ」と言った。呪いか。機能不全だった幼少期のせいでもなく、私がナルシストな男性を好んでしまうせいでもなく、呪いのせいだったのか。

"Yes, I want to get married". I say to him. He says, "Okay, take book, open book, any page, any page, find a word" like he's a magician. So I take the book and I point to a word. He says, "read it". So says, "Ki, Shu". He says, "You know what this means?" So I guess I say "magic". Says "no. It means curse. You have been cursed. This is why you're not married". Aha, a curse, okay? It's not my dysfunctional childhood, nor my terrible taste in narcissistic men, but a curse.

2.フレンチクッキーのつながり（The French Cookie Connection）

・友達同士、お互いを思う気持ちが良いですね。「賢者の贈り物」の現代版と言ってもよいのでは？

・話し手の勢いに引き込まれてしまいました。

ラマダンの最初の夜。すべてが計画通りに進むように。あと約12時間。家に帰って、スーツケースを詰めて、クッキーをバッグに入れて、確認、OK。朝5時に起きて、サフール（日の出前の食事）を食べて、ファジル（日の出の礼拝）。そして、午前9時のフライトに向けて空港へ。ゲートで私の番号が呼ばれるまさにその時に到着したけど、大丈夫、ピッツバーグに着いたのだから。クッキーもピッツバーグに着いた。クッキーを持って行く作戦は、順調に進んでいる。うまくやっている。

It's the first night of Ramadan, and I have about twelve hours to make sure that everything goes exactly as planned. First, are we done? Get home, pack my suitcase, cookies, make it into the bag, check, we're done. Wake up at like five in the morning, have suhoor, then fajr. Then make it to the airport for my nine a.m. flight. I get there right as they're calling my number at the gate, but it's all good, we have made it to Pittsburgh. The cookies have made it to Pittsburgh. The operation of getting all these cookies is well underway. We're doing it.

4.ストリップハウス（Strip House）

・女性が初めてのデートで、大胆にも、裸にコートを着ていった話。笑ってしまった。

私はバーに座っていて、汗が顔から、オールドネイビーのキャメル色のオールウェザーのトレンチコートの中に滴り落ちてきて、どうしたらいいかわからなかったの。そして、ラムチョップが出てきて、私の頭の中はラムチョップでいっぱいだったんだけど、それでも言う勇気はまだあったの。ついに、ジョンが「ステーキから始める？それともラムから？」って言ったの。私は「あなたがステーキの話をしているのに、私は裸で、ポリエステルが体にまとわりついているのよ」って思ったわ。

I'm sitting at the bar. There's like, sweat dripping down my face, down into my like, Old Navy, camel colored all weather trench coat. I just didn't know what to do. And the lamb chops come out of my mind, and I still have the courage to say it. And finally, John's like, "Do you want to start with steak or lamb?" I was like, you're talking about steak and I'm making I naked, the polyester is now sticking to my body.

5.陶芸教室（Pottery Class）

・創作に行き詰まった男性が、妻のすすめで陶芸教室に通う話。

・ストーリーはそれほど特別ではありませんでしたが、語り方がすごく上手くて、引き込まれました。

ロングアイランドシティにいて、人生で一度も足を踏み入れたことのない陶芸スタジオに入りました。何が起こっているのか全く分かりません。壁一面に棚があって、いろんな物が置いてあります。テニスボールの隣にWD-40（スプレー）、その隣にコーンスターチ、その隣に物差し、その隣に木の束、バラバラのボタン、あらゆる種類の奇妙で変な物が置いてあるんです。床は、"濡れて乾いて濡れて乾いて"を繰り返した感じで、今では足の裏に古くなったワッフルのような感触がします。辺りを見回すと、粘土の粉塵が舞っているのを感じます。歯の間にざらつきを感じるほどです。空気中には土の匂いがします。見回すと、そこにいる人たちは皆、茶色い粘土の塊を扱っています。

すると、ある女性が近づいてきました。彼女は、どういうわけか6色のピンクがちぐはぐになった服を着ていて、左右違う色の靴下を履き、サンダルを履いています。10月なのにです。彼女は、ここ50年ほど自分で楽しそうに髪を切ってきたような風貌です。彼女は私に言いました。「ピーターに会いに来たの？」私は「僕がピーターです」と言ったら、彼女は混乱しました。そして彼女は「私の名前はLiberty Valance(*)よ」と言いました。私は「え？」と言って、今度は私が混乱しました。すると、クイーンズボロ橋に電柱があったとしたら、まさにそんな感じの男が、赤い髭を蓄えて、隅っこでクスクス笑っているんです。私は辺りを見回して、「ああ、なるほど。ここが変人たちの集まる場所なんだな」と思いました。
*Liberty Valanceは西部劇にでてくる悪役の名前だそうです。（The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance）
I'm in Long Island City, and I walk into the ceramic studio, a place that never been in my life, and I don't understand what is going on. There are walls are packed with shelves and things. There are tennis balls next to WD 40, next to corn starch, next to yard sticks, next to bundles of sticks, random buttons, all kinds of weird, just strange things. The floor feels like it had been wet and dried and wet and dried and wet and dried to the point that now it feels like stale waffles underneath of my feet. I'm looking around and feeling the clay dust. I can feel it in gritting in my teeth. I can smell the earth in the air. I look around, and everyone in the place is working with these balls of this brown clay.
This woman comes up to me, and she's wearing mismatched six shades of pink, somehow, and two different colored socks and sandals. It's October. She looks like she's been happily cutting her own hair for the last 50 years. She says to me, are you here for Peter? I say, I am Peter, and this confuses her. And she says, My name is Liberty Valance. I said, What? And now I'm confused. And then this guy looks if the Queensborough bridge had a pole, it would be this guy, and he's got a red beard. He's chuckling in the corner. And I'm looking around like, Oh, I get as I this is where the weirdos are.

6.私は引き返した（I Walked Back）

・女性が素敵な男性と出会うが、彼を思う気持ちとインドの伝統的な価値観を持つ両親との間で苦しむ話。

変だけど、なんだか、なんだか彼のことが好きだったんです。それで、両親に言わなきゃならないと気づいて、2年後に言いました。父はまあまあ受け入れてくれましたが、母はそうでもありませんでした。母の反応は毎日3回、留守番電話にこんな感じで入ってきました。「もしもし、ニミシャです。メッセージをどうぞ。ピッ。（母のすすり泣く声）。ピッ」それだけが毎日3回です。

And it's weird, and I kind of, I kind of like it. So I realized I have to tell my parents. So, like, two years later, I do. My dad takes it kind of well, but my mom not really so much. So her reaction comes every day, three times a day on my voicemail, kind of like this. "Hi this is Nimisha. Leave a message by" "beep" mother's sobbing "beep". That was it. Three times a day.
